SOL was made as a final model from a series of around 30 quick prototypes made from household materials. These small models explored shape options for my final design.

When I started prototyping the first chair I chose to make it in 1:2 scale. This was done to find possible difficulties during the production of the final model. After trying different ways of working on the small stool I decided to move on to a full scale square stool. The way the bottom part of the stool was made worked out really well, it was sturdy and possible to sit on. The top however was made from multiplex at this point, this wasn’t comfortable and out of proportion compared to the legs. In the final round model the bottom plate which holds the legs was thicker to make for a stronger connecting and a overall sleeker look. On the final model there’s a thin frame with calfs leather stretched over it which has the same color of the wood being used for the stool. This creates a more cohesive aesthetic.
